SNEC 2025 Shanghai: Leading Industry Innovation and Future Trends 2025-06-11

Event Overview

The 18th International Photovoltaic Power Generation and Smart Energy Conference & Exhibition (SNEC 2025) will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai from June 11-13, 2025, gathering 3,600+ exhibitors from 95 countries across a 380,000-square-meter exhibition area with an expected 500,000 professional visitors.

SNEC 2025 Exhibition Scale Overview

The event includes the "SNEC PV+ 2025 International Photovoltaic Conference" from June 10-12 at the Shanghai National Exhibition Center InterContinental Hotel, and exhibition activities from June 11-13.   The conference theme "Integration of PV and Storage, Smart Leading the Future" will bring together global PV and energy storage leaders, experts, and officials to discuss energy transition and technological innovation.

Industry Trends

SNEC 2025 showcases cutting-edge technologies and innovations in the new energy sector.   PV technology iteration is a major focus, with N-type high-efficiency cell technologies taking center stage.   TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact), HJT (Heterojunction), BC (Back Contact), and perovskite technologies are competing for market dominance.   The direct competition between TOPCon and BC cell camps is particularly noteworthy, viewed as the core battleground for technology iteration and market restructuring over the next five years.   Multiple leading companies unveiled new high-efficiency module products at the exhibition, such as JinkoSolar's Tiger Neo 3.0 module with 670W/24.8% efficiency, scheduled for mass production in the second half of 2025.   Skyworth Solar partnered with Aikosolar to globally launch the All Back Contact (ABC) module with mass production efficiency exceeding 24%, offering 6-10% higher power than mainstream TOPCon modules in the same area.   These new technologies demonstrate that improving photoelectric conversion efficiency and reducing electricity costs remain core directions for PV industry development.

Energy storage technology innovation is another highlight of this exhibition.   With increasing global demand for renewable energy integration and grid stability, diverse storage technologies are flourishing.   Lithium-ion batteries continue to dominate, but companies are exploring safer and more economical solutions.   For example, SVOLT Energy showcased its "Short Blade" cells made with thermal composite stacking technology, whose storage systems have demonstrated excellent safety, stability, and economic efficiency in actual projects, with expected return on investment within 3.5 years.   Additionally, sodium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries, and flow batteries received significant attention.   Industry experts predict 2025 will be a "watershed" year for new battery technologies: solid-state batteries are expected to enter high-end application markets, while sodium-ion batteries could revolutionize energy storage.   At SNEC 2025, multiple companies displayed sodium-ion battery storage systems, whose cost advantages and abundant resources align with large-scale storage needs.   Innovations addressing storage safety are also emerging, such as the world's first battery management system (BMS) that breaks through the "bucket effect," significantly enhancing battery life and safety through architectural and algorithmic innovations.

Digitalization and intelligence integration in the new energy sector is a major trend at SNEC 2025.   The exhibition hosted the second "AI+Energy and Energy Digitalization Summit Forum," focusing on applications of artificial intelligence, big data, IoT, and other technologies in energy systems.   Many exhibitors showcased smart energy management platforms, digital twin power plant O&M systems, and AI-driven energy efficiency optimization solutions.   For example, Haier New Energy presented its comprehensive smart energy solutions and AI energy robots under the theme "AI Without Boundaries, Smart Future," deeply integrating into "source-grid-load-storage" systems and home microgrid scenarios.   Through digital means, energy companies can achieve real-time monitoring, intelligent scheduling, and fault diagnosis of PV stations and storage systems, significantly improving operational efficiency and reliability.   As carbon neutrality goals advance, the energy industry will accelerate digital and intelligent transformation, with AI and big data technologies playing larger roles throughout the lifecycle of new energy planning, construction, and operation.

Key Speakers and Statements

SNEC 2025 gathered numerous influential figures from government, industry organizations, businesses, and academia who shared valuable insights on industry development.  Zhu Gongshan, Chairman of the Global Green Energy Council and Asian Photovoltaic Industry Association, stated at the opening ceremony that despite current industry fluctuations, the long-term growth trend remains unchanged.  He emphasized that the PV industry is at a critical juncture transitioning from scale expansion to high-quality development, requiring technological innovation and international cooperation to meet challenges and seize opportunities.  Gao Jifan, Chairman of Trina Solar, pointed out that the industry should not be limited to debates about which cell technology is superior, but should focus on promoting progress across all technological pathways to meet different application scenarios.  He called for stronger collaboration across the supply chain to accelerate the industrialization of new technologies, reduce electricity costs, and enhance the market competitiveness of PV power generation.

Government representatives also conveyed policy support signals at the conference.  Representatives from the National Energy Administration stated that China will continue to improve renewable energy support policies and accelerate the construction of a new power system with new energy as its mainstay, creating a favorable environment for PV and energy storage industries.  They mentioned that with the advancement of power market reforms, new energy enterprises should seize opportunities to actively participate in spot electricity markets and ancillary services markets to increase project comprehensive benefits.  Additionally, representatives from the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) also attended the conference, sharing the latest dynamics of global energy transition and cooperation initiatives.  They highly praised China's leading role in the renewable energy field and hoped to strengthen international exchanges and cooperation through platforms like SNEC to jointly address climate change challenges.
